Assateague Island Oral History Collection

This collection contains four lengthy transcriptions of various interviews conducted with Assateague Island natives between 1978 and 2004. These interviews focused on the maritime culture and lifestyle native to Assateague Island, hardships and nostalgic moments of their youth. The interviewees include: Mary K. Cropper, Ilia J. Fehrer, Jay F. Kirkpatrick, Hazel Holland, Luvenia Spence, and Don P. Bowden Sr. The transcriptions were processed by Pat Russell, however the original audio recordings are not included. Also included is a Historic context study of Waterflow, and the local flora and fauna of Assateague Island by Dr. Ralph E. Eshelman and Patricia A. Russell. The manuscript was written in July 2004, and benefited from the aid of the Dept. of Interior Park Services.
